Adding the widget, cart bar and badges to your theme
What each theme element is, where it goes, how to move it, and what to do on themes without app blocks.
MixMaxer ships four theme elements as a Shopify theme app extension. None of them edits theme.liquid; uninstalling the app removes all of them.
- Product block (“MixMaxer offer”): the tiers / bundle / gift widget on the product page. Also usable on any other page with a product picked in the block settings (see “Featured offer on the home page”).
- Cart upsell embed: the progress bar and one-click buttons in the cart drawer and cart page.
- Card badges embed: small labels like “Buy 2, save 10%” on product cards in collections and search.
- Mix & match block: the set builder for collection pages (only needed for Mix & match offers).
Product block
- Settings › Theme setup › Add to theme. The theme editor opens on the product template with the block placed under the price.
- Optional: drag the block anywhere inside the product information section. Above the buy button converts best for volume tiers; under the price for bundles.
- Press Save (top right).
The block has its own settings in the editor: layout override, size, a product picker (for non-product pages), a heading for the featured card, top and bottom margins, and a custom CSS box.
Cart bar and badges (app embeds)
- In the theme editor open App embeds (the puzzle icon at the bottom of the left sidebar).
- Switch on MixMaxer cart upsell and MixMaxer card badges.
- Choose badge position (left or right) and style (filled or outlined).
- Press Save.
Settings › Theme setup has an Enable button for each embed that opens the editor already on the right switch.
Which theme gets the block?
The editor opens your published theme. If you work on an unpublished theme (for example a Dawn copy while your live theme is different), add the elements there too: theme settings are per theme, not per store. Settings › Theme setup only checks the published theme.
Themes without app blocks
Themes older than Online Store 2.0 (no JSON product template) cannot host app blocks. Settings › Theme setup shows “no JSON product template”. Email support with your store URL and theme name: we install the widget for you at no cost, usually within one business day.
Common problems
“There is a problem with the app block” when opening the Add to theme link.
The theme editor was opened for a theme where the app is not yet allowed, or the link is stale after an app update. Open the editor manually: Online Store › Themes › Customize › product template › Add block › Apps › MixMaxer offer.
The block appears twice.
It was added once through Settings and once manually. Remove one in the editor; the widget itself renders only once per page anyway.
The embeds are on, but Settings still says “Not enabled”.
Press Re-check. If it stays red, the embeds were enabled on a non-published theme; check the theme name in the editor header.
Widget shows on desktop but not on mobile.
Some themes use a separate mobile product section. Add the block to that section too (it appears in the editor when previewing on mobile).
The widget is full-width under the product image instead of next to the price.
The block sits at the section level. Drag it into the Product details group in the editor sidebar (Horizon-family themes) or into the product information column (Dawn-family themes) and Save.
